Transcript:

Hello friends you are all most welcome today's first tutorial of Kapsone studies. Today we will learn about different philosophers of geography who contributed a lot in changing the thinking about geography prevalent that time. As there are lots of philosopher of geography but here in this video I will discuss only about those philosophers who are important for the point of view of UPSC civil services examination, about others I will discuss later in the  upcoming presentations of this subject, because it is not very  necessary to learn about them at this early stage.
Before starting I would like to inform you that this slide is being prepared by Kapsone studies. You must visit our blog, Facebook page and YouTube channel where you can share them, comment or like our videos so that  we will continue to get motivated.
So our first philosopher is Eratosthenes. We also call him father of geography We call him so, because he is the only one who divided earth into latitude and longitude and that too in  276 BC..So What is latitude and longitude ? we will discuss  them well in upcoming  presentations. For now just remember that they divide Earth into small regions so that each region get some unique coordinates, with the help of which we can find the location of any region easily. Eratosthenes was Greek .Along with Geographer he was also great mathematician poet Astronomist & Musician, Moreover he also used to manage the library in Alexandria . We must remember one thing Here that we should not get confused with the father of geography who is Eratosthenes and father of science who is Thales. Before moving ahead I would like you to know that  you must note the text given in the left hand side of our slides,  which is a part of our micro notes. If you will note this text well, then your Micronotes will be in your hand after the completion of our course.  Greatest advantage of micronotes is that you can revise whole subject within one or two hours. As you all know UPSC civil services examination is an play of memory and if you can revise any subject within one or two hour then it will be of great advantage. So don't forget to note it down carefully.  And if you're feeling lax in noting it down, you can visit your blog anytime and can copy it from there.
Thales  in 546 PC have already told us that whatever the natural phenomenon happening around is not  because of some god or some natural Phenomenon .. he explained that  Behind every natural phenomena, essentially there is some logic…. because of only this modern thinking he recognised as father of science. He was great philosopher along with that he was also great mathematician and astronomer.. although his contribution is not directly related to geography but I am surfacing his name here because lot of students got confused between the Thales and Eratosthenes so remember Thales is a father of science
Our Next philosopher is Theophrastus. He was from Greece and he was the only one who started using the word geography and history. He stated geography as Chorological science which means understanding the relations between different places,  where as he stated history as chronological science which means understanding the relation between the events happening at the different time; so that was Theophrastus
So that's enough for the first presentation of geography please comment and tell us how do you like our presentation? what improvement we should do?  if you liked our presentation then  don't forget to subscribe our channel. In coming days we’ll upload each and every topic related slides... So thank you for being part of this presentation take care.
